For today’s #dailysong we’re gonna pop back over to Paramore. This is a song I really love for one reason, it completely changes on repeat listens. What do I mean by that? Well, if you haven’t heard it before, go listen now as background music, then come back once it’s over….. Okay, you done? Wasn’t that really fun and catchy? Great! Cause it’s about the existential dread of having to face adulthood your own. Fun, right!? So what did I mean by it’s great for repeat listens? Well, if you’re like me, or most people in my experience, the first time you heard this, you probably weren’t paying too much attention to the lyrics. So you heard the catchy upbeat melody and probably caught lines like “Ain’t it fun?” But the more you listen to it, the more you catch, and the more the meaning changes. You begin to realize that the lyrics are sarcastic, that it’s about someone who never had to experience being anything other than being coddled and told they’re the absolute best. But now that they’re on their own facing adulthood, they’re coming to realize that life isn’t that easy. Life is hard, life is scary, and life can suck when you’re alone. Now, I hate to end on such a negative note, so let me just say this. You’re rarely ever truly alone. We have friends or family who care about us. For some those friends are close, for others they’re online. But they’re all close to us and our hearts. So if you ever feel lost, remember you can count on these people. So anyway, here’s “Ain’t it Fun,” by Paramore.
“Ain’t it fun living in the real world? Ain’t it good being all alone?”
