It might depend of how you put it into mind. Being independent means you live alone in a house, while being in a relationship involves a partner and creating a family of your own. But whatever happens, it's your choice to make.

Not sure if you mean by independent as being single. Otherwise It's fine to be separate and in a relationship. It is your choice to be alone, I prefer relationships with separation of some friends and some activities.
