Four days in, and I'm already regretting not capitalizing the words in this hashtag. Oh well, sunk cost fallacy it is! I was gonna go with something else today, but I just can't get this out of my head, so I'm gonna go with it today. On a related note, expect a short sling of musicals in the near future. This is also gonna be the first time I should probably put an explicit content warning for some choice words. Anyway, the song of choice for today is one that any self-respecting theatre nerd is going to be aware of. "Your Obedient Servant" from the musical Hamilton. Now, what about this do I love so much. It's admittedly one of the shorter songs in the show at only 2 minutes and 30 seconds, but it does have a few good lines that resonate with me personally. Specifically a lot of Hamilton's lines I relate to. I have some family who don't appreciate my, shall we say, liberal views, and the unapologetic nature with which Hamilton here states that he stands by every word he says really reaches me on a personal level. I have been straight up told that I don't understand what I'm saying at times and that I'll grow to regret them one day. Personally, I can't believe that's true. On a more general note, part of what I love about this song is how it encapsulates the language that was used in that era by people like this. How even when Burr is threatening Hamilton's life, and Hamilton is telling Burr is without morals or character, they always make sure to be as polite, which here means using high language, as possible. "I will not equivocate on my opinion. I have always worn it on my sleeve."
