For this #dailysong we’re gonna go over a hit that got a lot of undeserved flack. Why was it undeserved? Cause no one got the joke. This is a song that’s framed like a sex song, but if you pay attention the whole thing is clearly meant to be ironic. Ed Sheeran knows he’s not the singer people fantasize about. He’s not the traditional sexy celebrity, and he plays into that with a not-traditionally sexy song. There are parts of the song where the relationship described sounds downright normal and average. He’s not playing himself up as some adonis, he’s a normal, dtf dude. And when you look at the song with this mindset, it’s pretty funny. That being said, I do personally prefer this one specific cover of it over the original, but I didn’t feel like it was fair to put that over this one simply because I only like it more cause of a genre shift. It doesn’t really do much to enhance the original theme of the song, and if anything it tones down the joke. So anyway, go ahead and give “Shape of You,” by Ed Sheeran a listen.
“I'm in love with the shape of you. We push and pull like a magnet do. Although my heart is falling too. I'm in love with your body.”
