I wasn't supposed to get this until Monday, but the vinyl record I bought arrived early. This is the first demo by a German band called Poison. This isn't the well known glam band that did Look What the Cat Dragged In and Every Rose Has Its Thorn. Poison was a short lived early example of extreme metal. Formed in 1982, the band recorded their first demo Sons of Evil in 1984. It was raw as hell, fast, heavy and aggressive. Also very amateur. The band is considered part of the first wave of black metal along side Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Venom and Bathory. They remain largely unknown, but their demos would be influential to the second wave of black metal, who basically saw raw production as a good thing. This version of the Sons of Evil demo was mastered for vinyl from the original tape it was recorded on, so it is the best sounding version of the demo available. Or should I say the least shit sounding version?
