Finishing #dailysong with another independent creator, this is a song that is a shining example of what is, imo, one of the hardest genres to get right. Rap. One of my favorite things in music is clever use of words and patterns. Since rap isn’t constrained to normal music standards, it has the highest potential to play freely with its structure. And so often today it just falls flat with a dull repetitive hook designed to get popular on TicTok and it pisses me off. This, however, takes full advantage of the genre it’s in. The form is so erratic it’s basically non-existent outside of the chorus. The emotion and passion are felt in every word. You know every word he says comes from real-life experience. And you can feel the pain and isolation he feels with every verse. And best of all, the music video here complements the feelings being expressed very well with a psychedelic landscape that represents how he feels trapped and isolated from the world. I struggle to find any specific lyric to complement because it all comes together to have the whole be greater than the sum of its parts. So anyway, here’s “Help! Oh Well…” by SomethingElseYT.
“Help Oh, well Everybody going up, but I'm going to hell I don't even give a f**k what I'm doing, who cares I be thinking that I'm nuts, but who isn't? I stare, I stare screaming”
